Lawyering on the Mississippi: thoughts about family law

Raptors! August 28, 2012

No, not big, ferocious, predator dinosaurs.  It’s migrating birds of prey. They are awesome and the photo of the broad wing hawk caught my eye. What a beautiful bird and great photo!

Hawk Ridge is a phenomenon of nature that we need to appreciate more often.

Mississippi River: How High's the Water?

May 29, 2012 There has been an unusually heavy rainfall for the last week in this area and the result is that the Mississippi River is very full. Water is up over the banks in many places this far north. Photo is the shoreline trees now in the water.

Since 1958, by Presidential Proclamation, May 1 of each year is National Law Day.

Without our judicial system, equal application of justice would not exist.

Increase in Child Support Recovery Fees December 9, 2011

A repost from the Lindy Grell Law Office Facebook page:

Notice to parents who pay or receive child support payments:
the State of Minnesota will double the collection recovery fee starting January 1, 2012. The recipient of the support (obligee, in child support orders) will have 2% deducted from each payment, kept by the State to administer the support case.

That means the obligee will have 2% less in child support from the payment made by the other parent.

This will not apply to cases involving public assistance, however.

We made it to December!

It may be dark, cold, and snowy here in the northland, but we have a chance to brighten our lives by taking advantage of the month of the most holidays to enjoy our families and friends (that also means extra days off from work for many of us).

Be kind. Be considerate. Share. Wait your turn. Speak nice words. Be generous when you can. Take care of those who cannot take care of themselves. Respect differences.

Peace on Earth!

Victims of Domestic Violence Remembered October 31, 2011

They are not forgotten.

In our community, the victims of domestic violence were remembered in a march.  Just as importantly, people spoke out against domestic violence and are supportive of efforts to stop this problem and eliminate it for everyone. Thank you to the marchers and the powerful statement by Rep. John Ward, hoping that there will be a day soon that domestic violence no longer occurs.

Video from the march from Lakeland Public TV:
